Air Fryer Salt and Pepper Chicken is a crispy, flavorful takeout-style favorite made healthier at home. Tender chicken pieces are lightly coated, air-fried to perfection, and tossed in a savory peppery seasoning with garlic and chilies.
Ingredients:
For the Chicken:
1 lb chicken thighs or breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon Shaoxing wine (or dry sherry)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
¼ teaspoon white pepper
½ teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
For the Tossed Seasoning:
3 cloves garlic, minced
1–2 red chilies, thinly sliced
1 green chili, thinly sliced
3 green onions, chopped
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
½ teaspoon white pepper
Instructions:
1. Marinate the Chicken:
In a bowl, combine chicken pieces, soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, garlic powder, salt, and white pepper.
Let it marinate for 15–20 minutes.
2. Coat & Air Fry:
Toss the marinated chicken in cornstarch until lightly coated.
Drizzle with vegetable oil and toss to coat evenly.
Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
Air fry chicken in a single layer for 12–15 minutes, shaking halfway through, until golden and crispy.
3. Prepare the Seasoning Mix:
In a skillet, heat a teaspoon of oil over medium heat.
Sauté garlic and chopped chilies for about 1 minute until fragrant.
Add salt, black pepper, white pepper, and green onions, stir briefly.
4. Toss & Serve:
Add the crispy chicken to the skillet and toss with the seasoning mix until well coated.
Serve immediately with steamed rice or noodles.
Tips:
Crispier Finish: Spray the chicken lightly with oil before air frying.
Spice Control: Adjust the amount of chili to your heat preference.
