Pretzel Bratwurst Bites are the ultimate party snack, perfect for game days or casual get-togethers. These savory bites feature juicy bratwurst wrapped in soft, chewy pretzel dough, served with a tangy mustard dip.
Ingredients:
For the Bites:
- 4 bratwursts, cooked and sliced into 1-inch pieces
- 1 can (16 ounces) refrigerated pizza or pretzel dough
- 6 cups water
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Coarse salt, for sprinkling
For the Dip (Optional):
- 1/2 cup Dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
Instructions:
Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
Cook the Bratwursts:
- If the bratwursts are not pre-cooked, boil or grill them until fully cooked. Let them cool, then slice into 1-inch pieces.
Prepare the Pretzel Dough:
- Roll out the pizza or pretzel dough and cut it into strips about 1 inch wide.
Wrap the Bratwurst:
- Wrap each piece of bratwurst with a strip of dough, pinching the ends to seal.
Prepare the Baking Soda Bath:
- In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Slowly add baking soda, stirring to dissolve.
- Using a slotted spoon, dip each wrapped bratwurst into the baking soda bath for 20-30 seconds. Remove and place on the prepared baking sheet.
Add Egg Wash and Salt:
- Brush each bite with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt.
Bake:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the pretzel dough is golden brown and cooked through.
Make the Dip:
- In a small bowl, mix Dijon mustard, honey, and mayonnaise until smooth. Adjust sweetness to taste.
Serve:
- Serve the Pretzel Bratwurst Bites warm with the mustard dip on the side.
Tips:
- Use spicy mustard or cheese sauce as alternative dips.
- Add a sprinkle of shredded cheddar cheese before wrapping the bratwurst for an extra cheesy twist.
- Leftovers can be reheated in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes.
